Hall Senior Applications
Applications are invited for the position of Hall Senior at Southwell & Bernard Sunley Hall for the academic year 2012/2013.
You should be an Imperial undergraduate student who loved halls so much you decided to come back for another year.
You will assist the wardening team with helping to organise social events, answer questions, and ensure that hall residents have a great first year in Southwell & Bernard Sunley Hall. Hall seniors are expected to be resident in hall up to a week before the official move in day to assist in planning and preparations for move in day, welcome week and beyond. Throughout the year you will be expected to help in the Hall Office from 7.30-8.00 pm and serve freshers at the Coffeebar from 8.00 pm – 11.00 pm through a fixed rota (once every 2 weeks). Additionally, you will assist the Subwardens with their various duties and be in charge of your colour groups in terms of social events. Hall Seniors should be prepared to play an active role on the Hall Committee and be present to ensure the smooth running of hall events.
We appreciate that a lot of you might have already made friends and planning to move together outside halls next year, and therefore for the first time we have decided to consider applications from small groups of friends currently residing in the Hall, who would like to remain as seniors next year. Group members will need to submit separate applications and indicate their intention to apply as a group under the ‘Reasons for Applying’ section.
Forms can be submitted by e-mail to sbshall@imperial.ac.uk or to the Hall Office during opening hours.
Please do not hesitate to contact members of the Wardening team and current Hall seniors to find out more about the role.
The closing date for applications is this Friday, 24th February 2012.

Southwell and Bernard Sunley Hall is an Imperial College Hall of Residence located in Evelyn Gardens in South Kensington, next to some of the most exclusive real estate in the world. A fifteen minute walk from College, and a stone's throw from the King's Road, the hall is located in a pleasant residential area set around private gardens in Chelsea.

The hall actually consists of two buildings – Southwell (SW) and Bernard Sunley (BS).

The hall was created through the merger of SH and BS following a College review in 2011 and is now one of three halls of residence located around Evelyn Gardens.
Living in Southwell and Bernard Sunley is an experience. Sharing a room, interacting and meeting people of different nationalities and customs will result in friendships for a lifetime.
The Colour Groups
Students in the hall are split into eight groups (based on colours), with most further split into two smaller groups, associated with the kitchens they use. Each colour group has a different member of the Wardening team responsible for their wellbeing, and a different Hall Senior per kitchen group, as a first point of contact. There are a number of ways you can contact the warden in charge of your group. All live in the hall, so you can knock on their door or send them an email for a face-to-face meeting.

The Wardening team of Southwell and Bernard Sunley is here to promote and encourage activities that will improve your social life, and make your studies at Imperial something to remember. Throughout the academic year, we organise social events (film, video and restaurant nights every week, parties, trips - Belgium, France - and lots of other events), we play football every Sunday, and we are open to any ideas for more activities.
Dr Nick Voulvoulis (a Reader in Environmental Technology), leads the Wardening team and has overall responsibility, as the Warden of the Hall. He is assisted by Dr Cleo Kontoravdi (a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering) the Assistant Warden of the Hall and seven subwardens, in charge of the eight colour groups that the hall is divided into. Mr. Charles Betts (a Research Postgraduate in Mechanical Engineering), Mr. Michael Cecchini (a Research Postgraduate in Chemistry), Dr. Sam Ladak (a Research Associate in Physics), Mr. Nicholas Lambert (a Research Postgraduate in Mechanical Engineering), and Mr David Williams (a Research Postgraduate in Civil Engineering), Miss Red Elmahdi (a Research Postgraduate in Medicine) and Miss Elpida Episkopou (a Research Postgraduate in Electrical Engineering) are the subwardens.
