G&W Utd vs. Clayponds FC – 16/1/10

Guth 34, 41 – Mashi, 67 – Zajaczkowski, 75

An eager G&W team travelled to Hyde Park for a match against Clayponds, known for their strength and resilience.

A strong start from the Gardening Weekenders drove much of the possession deep into the Clayponds defensive line from strong midfield performances from Guth, Zajaczkowski, Lambourn and Tandy but one counterattack allowed a steaming Clayponds winger to slip through the backline to score.

Down 1-0, G&W regrouped and a renewed playstyle down the wings unlocked the fullback weakness of the Clayponds defence. Defence split, two successive goals from Guth cutting in unmarked allowed us to take a vital lead at halftime.

Shortly after halftime, an excellent Tandy was injured and Mashi moved into central mid. This in combination from an aggressive attacking Kowlessar allowed us to shred their left back to bits and boxed in the Clayponds team in their own third for the majority of the second half allowing the accumulation of pressure to reward us with a freekick by Mashi that bent around the Clayponds wall, reminiscent of Beckham, to smash into the top left corner. Powerhouse Zajaczkowski added to the tally with fantastic footwork dazzling the Clayponds defence to slot it in firmly for a 4th.

Full-time score: 4-1 to G&W

Man of the Match: Julius Guth – His two vital goals turned the game around for G&W and bossed the entire right channel for the remaining duration of the match.

G&W Utd vs. Southwell FC Match Report – 28th Nov 2010

Goals: Loads

This week G&W travelled down to Battersea Park on their tour bus, the number 137, for a very chilly game against Southwell FC.

The warmachine instantly fired up like from the kickoff and knocked three into the back of Southwells net in quick succession as a sleepy Southwellian defence was outskilled and dazzled by agility and clinical finishing from an excellent partnership between Angry Palmer and Nice-guy Kisby.
They hit one back from complacency on our behalf and this goal woke us up as we adapted and fine tuned our defence against the pacey opposition who looked dangerous as the ball was criss-crossed in and around our half.
Well established tackling and concrete play from Reaper Davies allowed the partnership to continue as Angry Palmer drilled home two more goals as Powerhouse Zajaczkowski added to the tally as a response to Grobbelaar Verlinden not quite managing to stretch far enough to save a pop on goal from Souhwell.
Half-time came with a score of 6-2. Geraad Saleem was switched over to left mid to allow Guth to piss about in the right channel with excellent runs down the left overshadowed by him falling over when he tried to tackle the Southwellian left wing. The midfield domination continued, reinforced by Bumblebee Pinchbeck, as two more goals were smashed in, once by Powerhouse Zajaczkowski and once again by Angry Palmer.
A mad rush of players to join in the scoring frenzy lead to a lack of composure seen in the first half and the final whistle blew for an 8-2 victory to the G&W warmachine.

Man of the Match: Lewis ‘Angry’ Palmer – His impeccable vision and striking ability ran circles around Southwell to show them why we are top of the league table.

G&W Utd vs. Southside 1sts - Match Report 14th November

Goals: 22 Kowlessar, 27, 77 Palmer

A rainy forecast brought out the best in the G&W warmachine as strength and determination in muddy Hyde Park shone through for a 3-1 victory.

A smooth start for the Weekending Gardeners with fluid play from Powerhouse Zajaczkowski connecting the midfield to the wingers as we revved up for a decisive corner. Giant Kowlessar bent low to head the ball firmly in the back of the net. The continuation of pressure coming from midfielders Grim Reaper Davies, Scott Pilgrim Guth and Squeaky Lambourn allowed the warmachine to shake up the Southside defence, enough to give strikers Angry Palmer and Quickfoot Mashi ample opportunities on goal. The release of pressure came from another corner, delivered in by Nice guy Kisby saw Angry Palmer clinically heading the ball into the top right corner. Top stuff.

The second half came with Southside adapting a 4-3-3 formation in an attempt to break the iron wall of Bumblebee Pinchbeck, Alex Gregory, Panzer Aubery and Medic Liston. Alas, the goal came as they hit our Achilles tendon, the goalkeeper. A lobbed ball had Will Cheung panicking and spilling the ball in front of two Southside forwards to bring it back to 2-1. Calamity. A break in our concentration held us back but when Geraad Saleem came on, there was renewed confidence in the defence and midfield and Quickfoot Mashi danced around the defence, supplied to Lewis and the ball slotted in for a 3-1 win.
Man of the Match: Mikey ‘Bumblebee’ Pinchbeck – Absolutely solid work at the back as well as punishing pressure moving forwards silencing all opposing wing-play. It didn’t seem like they had an attack with the Bumblebee hovering around.

Match 2
Garden and Weeks 0 - 0 Pembridge & Parsons:

A well won rock, paper, scissors from skipper Will Cheung dictated the flow of the game for the first ten seconds as the G&W warmachine quickly learnt that we were literally facing a brick wall of P&P rugby players.
The first half started off like we planned with excellent midfield play from Angry Palmer, Powerhouse Zajaczkowski and Yankie Bernasek capturing almost all balls to be distributed out onto the wingers Squeaky Lambourn and Scott Pilgrim Guth but playing against a side that fielded eight centre backs was founded to be an impossible task to penetrate and frustration grew quickly even as possession remained firmly on our side as Nice Guy Kisby and target man Mashi were sequestered by the mob.

The second half came and the warmachine switched from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2 and brought on much needed attacking fullbacks with impressive attacking play from Giant Kowlessar and new fella Naminator Nam giving us a boost down the wings and helping out Panzer Aubery and Alex Gregory. After a weathering of a barrage of shots from almost the G&W team, P&P held out for a 0-0 draw. Especially unlucky for the G&W boys as possession was about 80-20 to us.
Man of the Match – Will ‘Alex’ Gregory – for non-stop alertness and rigour in the back allowing the team to have as many chances as we did.

Match 1
Garden and Weeks 2 - 0 Linstead:

Lambourn 22, Bernasek 53

Solid play from G&W Utd this week resulted in a defining 2-0 victory. A great start to the season as we let our skills and resilience shine through from the friendlies. An early chance was deflected as Squeaky Lambourn aided by Angry Palmer dominated Linstead’s non-existent left channel with mad skills combined with mad speed. The opposition’s only chances came from Will Cheung’s misjudged clearance flying into Grobbelaar Verlinden’s hands and their goal kicks but Panzer Aubery, Alex Gregory and Grim-Reaper Davies claimed all airspace to neutralise the threats. We bounced back halfway through the first half and broke the deadlock when Angry Palmer set up Squeaky Lambourn to bang in a perfect goal. 1-0 up, we were undeterred and kept the game in their half with dashing runs from Scott Pilgrim Guth and Wei Zhang supplied from Yankie Bernasek and Tandy in the center while Goalmaster Broda and Starfish Kwai held it firmly in the box but were unlucky to not score due to Linstead’s keeper.

Switches were made and a breather given to the hardworking mids and forwards as well as three of the injured defenders coming off as the aftermath of the Halloween party started to take its toll. New form was found as we consolidated our 1-0 with Nice Guy Kisby looping in a corner to Angry Palmer which allowed Yankie Bernasek to score a second well deserved goal advancing our lead. Solid defence on the wings from Bumblebee Pinchbeck, Giant Kowlessar and Muscles Hamada allowed the game to move towards what was seemingly quaint ending until three minutes from the end of the match, Goalmaster Broda was kicked hard in the arm when intercepting the Linstead goalie and broke it which meant the game had to be prematurely ended. The result was grim but luckily Field Medic Taylor was around and the ambulance was called to allow Goalmaster Broda to be scooted away to hospital.

Final Result: G&W Utd 2-0 Linstead FC Man of the Match: Seb ‘Yankie’ Bernasek – for top all round play. From start to finish, his performance was exceptional providing much needed attacking strength in the center. Honourary Man of the Match: Marek ‘Goalmaster’ Broda – Great play and his skills will be sorely missed in the next few weeks. Get better soon!
Special thanks to the supporters that came to watch us! Next week – G&W Utd vs Pembridge & Parsons FC

Garden and Weeks 0 - 0 Beit Hall:

A dank day at local grounds Hyde Park gave rise to a hearty performance from the Weekending Gardeners.
A clattering start from skipper Alex ‘?K’ Cheung foreboded what would be a true battle, mental and physical, between the resourceful G&W against the opposition. For much of the first half, the warmachine fought flurry after flurry of attacks but true to their nature, Will ‘Sorry’ Gregory, Harry ‘Tank’ Aubery, Mikey ‘Superstar’ Pinchbeck and Liam ‘Catchy’ Verlinden held like a fortress. The change of advantage came around the 30 min mark when James ‘Backbreaker’ Davies helped by James Tandy started to cause the Beiters to be pensive with their attacks as their midfield broke, almost literally.

A new rally for heart from wingers Ed ‘Springy’ Lambourn and Julius ‘Pacey’ Guth breathed new life into the team providing width and crosses but unlucky Giles ‘Beckham’ Kisby skied the first break on goal with additional attacks from Jawaad Saleem and Patrick Kwai being barely deflected by Beit.

Half time came, Mikey suffered the ill fate of having to go to work and the left channel was filled in by the captain with freshie James ‘Medic’ Liston excelling in holding back the waves of Ballack&Co on the right. Both sides struggled to capitalise on the other gamewise but James ‘lights-out’ Davies provided much needed strength and resilience in the middle to allow a base of fire to form. Many corners came and past for both sides but neither could deliver the killing blow as full time arrived at 0-0. Man of the Match: James Davies, never has such a staunch midfield been seen and never has such a devastating tackle been made. Hats off to the grim reaper.

Garden and Weeks 5 - 3 Fisher Hall:

A bright and sunny day yielded what was a fine performance from the Gardening Weekenders against the rugby turned football team Fisher Hall.

After high hopes from last weeks performance, the G&W warmachine did not disappoint. A pacey Giles `Nice guy` Kisby converted what was an in-the-box-brawl to give us a 1-0 lead after five minutes. Our midfield and the defence held off their probing balls with an excellent performance from left back Mikey `Bumblebee` Pinchbeck neutralising the Fisher forwards with Harry `Panzer` Aubery, William `Alex` Gregory and James `Nicknameless` Davies providing the backbone of a stellar defence screening Liam `Grobbelaar` Verlinden. Midfield supplied many balls allowing Marek `Goalmaster` Broda to score two more blazing goals assisted by Kisby and Ed `Squeaky` Lambourn with Lewis `Crossbar` Palmer rattling the framework twice. Right mid comprised of Julius `Scott Pilgrim` Guth blazing up and down the wing assisted by Alex `Will` Cheung providing the warmachine to continue the pressure leading to another three goals from Mr.Broda but the Fishers managed two more goals in a sudden lapse of concentration leading to the final score of 5-3.

Man of the Match: Seb `Powerhouse` Zajaczkowski - A stunning performance box to box, top to down, skills in the mills.
